A tyrant is someone who has complete control over a place or situation and uses that power unfairly.

When people talk about a dictator being a tyrant, they mean that he's making all the decisions without listening to others. But it can also be used for anyone who seems too bossy or controlling in their own life or family. A friend might say, "My brother is such a tyrant at home, always telling me what to do!" In this sense, being a tyrant isn't just about ruling over a country, but also about having an unfair amount of power in a small group or even in your own household.
