tick

A tick is a small bug that sucks blood from animals and people.

You might have seen ticks crawling around, especially after walking through grass or woods. They can be tiny, but they're annoying because they bite and make their hosts sick. If you find one on your skin, try to remove it quickly and carefully with tweezers – don't squeeze it too hard. Ticks are also used in sports, like the tick of a clock: every minute is marked by a ticking sound that says "time's running out."
