A throne is a high chair or seat, often with special powers and significance attached to it. It's typically where a king, queen, or other important person sits.

When people talk about a throne, they usually mean the actual physical chair, but sometimes they also refer to the job or position itself - being on the throne means being in charge as the leader of a country or kingdom. For example, "The new monarch sat down on their throne for the first time" describes the moment when someone takes over the leadership role.
