An insult or curse word is what we commonly call "swearing." When people swear, they're often using strong language that's considered unacceptable in polite conversation.
We use swearing words and phrases to express strong emotions like anger, frustration, or surprise. You might hear someone swear when their favorite sports team loses a game or when they're stuck in traffic on the way home from work. Swearing can also be a habitual thing – some people swear without even thinking about it as a regular part of how they talk, especially with friends or family members who share similar interests and backgrounds.
