suck

A suck is something or a situation that's bad or unpleasant.

You've probably heard people complaining about the weather when it's really hot and humid - "Ugh, this heat is sucking the life out of me!" In cases like these, "suck" describes how something makes you feel. It can also be used to talk about things that don't work well, like a leaky water pipe or a broken machine that sucks up all your money because it's always needing repairs. When someone says their favorite sports team had a terrible game and "it really sucked", they mean the team played badly and didn't live up to their usual standards.
