Staring means looking fixedly at someone or something with your eyes.
When people say that their friend is staring at them, they usually mean that their friend isn't making eye contact and is instead gazing intensely at them. You might notice this if you're talking to a classmate who's always staring at the same thing on your face – it could be your nose or your mouth. On TV or in movies, an actor might stare at someone for a dramatic effect. Some people get anxious when they feel like others are staring at them all the time; it can make you wonder what the other person is thinking. Staring can also happen unintentionally if someone gets lost in thought and forgets to look away from something or someone.
(construed with at) To look fixedly (at something).
The act of one who stares.
