preteens

A preteen is someone between 10 and 13 years old, usually still in elementary school but getting ready for the big transition to middle school.

You might hear the term preteen when talking about kids who are going through some pretty big changes. They're not little kids anymore, but they're not quite teenagers yet either. At this age, they often start to develop their own interests and try to assert their independence from their parents or guardians. Preteens may start to get more involved in activities like sports, clubs, or music, which can be a great way for them to meet new friends and discover what they're passionate about. Parents of preteens might also find themselves dealing with mood swings, growing bodies, and an increasing desire for independence - all big changes that can be overwhelming for kids (and adults!) at times.
