presume

Presume means to assume or believe that something is true without having proof. When you presume, you're making an educated guess based on what you know.

You might presume someone likes a certain movie because they like its genre. But if you do some research and find out the movie got really bad reviews from critics, your presumption might turn out to be wrong. People often presume things about others without actually asking them. For example, you might presume a new coworker is shy based on their body language at first meetings. However, as you get to know them better, you might discover they're actually outgoing and friendly. So, presumes are just guesses that we make with varying degrees of confidence.
