A peeve is a small problem or annoyance that gets on someone's nerves.

We often use "peeve" when talking about things that bother us, but aren't usually serious. For example, we might say "I have a major peeve with people who leave their trash on the beach," meaning that it really irritates us to see litter on the sand. Or we might complain about a friend's snoring being a constant peeve when they visit. Sometimes, we even use it to describe our own habits or behaviors - like "my biggest peeve is checking my phone too often." The word can be used as either a noun (the thing that bugs us) or a verb (to annoy someone).
