notarize

A notarized document is one that's been officially confirmed as true and correct by a public officer called a notary. This makes it super reliable.

You've probably heard people say they need something "notarized" before, like a signature or a copy of some important papers. When you're buying a house, for example, the seller might have to get some documents notarized as proof that everything's in order. The notary checks that all the details are correct and makes sure the signer is who they say they are - then they stamp it with their official seal and sign it themselves. This way, everyone knows the document can be trusted because a neutral third party has checked it out.

How common is "notarized"?

Word notarized is considered rare in modern English.
It has a balanced usage among all categories: speech, fiction, newspapers and academic texts.
