A landfill is a big area of land used for throwing away trash.

When people talk about landfills, they usually mean a place where waste and garbage get dumped. It's often an empty lot or a hole dug in the ground where cities or towns send their rubbish to be buried. When we use things like plastic bags, broken toys, and old food packaging, they eventually end up at the landfill, if not recycled first.
