An indictment is when someone officially accuses another person or organization of doing something wrong. This accusation usually happens as part of a formal process, like a court case.
When we talk about an indictment, it's often because someone has been accused of breaking a law. For example, imagine the police arresting a politician for taking bribes – that would be an indictment. The government might also indict a company if they've found out it's been lying to investors or doing something else shady. In both cases, the person or organization is formally accused of wrongdoing and now has to face trial or other consequences.
To accuse of wrongdoing; charge.
