Hypothermia is when your body gets too cold and can't keep itself warm. This usually happens when someone spends time outside in really chilly weather.
When people talk about hypothermia, they often mention it happening to hikers or skiers who get caught in a snowstorm without proper gear. It's also possible for older adults to develop hypothermia if their heating system breaks down and they can't warm up their homes. If someone you know is out hiking and hasn't checked in after a while, you might worry that they're suffering from hypothermia.
(pathology) Abnormally low body temperature; specifically, below 35 degrees Celsius for humans.
Example: Hypothermia is the systemic cold injury.
