A guitarist is someone who plays the guitar.

You might hear about famous rock stars being great guitarists or meet friends at school who are also learning to play. The word "guitarist" usually refers to a person, not the instrument itself. A musician can be called a guitarist even if they specialize in playing a specific type of music, like classical or jazz. Sometimes people might use the term "musician" as well, but when we talk about someone who plays the guitar all the time, we tend to say "guitarist".
