A fetus is an unborn baby growing inside its mother's womb.
When people talk about a fetus, they usually mean it as a stage of pregnancy. For example, if someone says "We just found out we're having a healthy fetus," that means they've had their prenatal test and everything looks good for the baby. Sometimes doctors or medical professionals will use the word fetus to refer specifically to the early stages of development, before the baby starts moving around much.
An unborn or unhatched vertebrate showing signs of the mature animal.
Example: Several feti were removed from every rats' uterus, stripped of their membranes and allowed to lie in the peritoneal cavity connected to the placenta by the umbilical cord and with the placenta still attached to the uterine wall.
