An act of dispensing is giving or providing something, like medicine or information.

When we talk about dispensing something, it's usually in a situation where we're being helpful or serving someone else. For example, a pharmacist might dispense medication to a patient who needs it. A teacher might dispense advice to a student who's struggling with a problem. Sometimes we use the word "dispense" to describe giving out information or news, like a government official dispensing details about a new policy. But in all cases, the idea is that we're providing something useful or necessary to someone else.
