crank

A crank is someone or something that has annoyingly peculiar opinions or behavior.

When we say that someone is being a crank, it means they're expressing strongly held but perhaps unreasonable ideas about something. This can happen in any situation, whether you're talking to a friend who's being overly critical of your cooking, or if you encounter an opinionated stranger on the street who's loudly sharing their views with anyone who will listen. Sometimes people use "crank" to describe an object that has some sort of weird or annoying feature, like a car with a gearshift that sticks.
