A burp is a loud sound that happens when gas builds up in your stomach and comes out of your mouth. It's usually accompanied by a bit of air being released.

When people eat quickly or eat foods that are hard to digest, they might start to feel a rumble or discomfort in their belly. If the food doesn't break down properly, it can make some gas get stuck inside. Sometimes, this trapped gas has to come out, and when it does, it often makes a loud sound – that's what we call a burp. It's completely normal, and people do it all the time, but it might be embarrassing in front of others, so it's usually something you try to excuse yourself for or quietly do away from public view.
