A brigadier is a high-ranking military officer.
In the English-speaking world, a brigadier is often used as a title for a mid-level commander in an army or air force. You might hear it mentioned on TV shows or movies set during wartime, or read about someone being promoted to brigadier in a news article. In some countries, like the UK and Australia, brigadiers are also part of the military reserves, leading groups of soldiers on training exercises or helping out with community projects outside of active duty.
