A bookend is an object that keeps your books from falling over.

When you have a lot of books stacked up on a shelf, it can look nice to keep them organized and standing upright. That's what bookends are for - they're usually small decorative items, like little statues or sculptures, that sit at each end of the shelf and keep everything tidy. You can find bookends made out of all sorts of materials, like metal, wood, or even ceramic. Some people even use heavy books as makeshift bookends!
