A beholder is someone who watches or observes something.

When we talk about a movie's target audience as "viewers" or "audience members," it's like they are the ones holding the perspective on what makes the film good or bad. But if we call them "beholders of the story," it puts more emphasis on how their individual perspectives and reactions to the movie can change its meaning.
