An afro is a natural hairstyle characterized by tightly coiled hair that grows out from the head. It's often worn by people of African descent.

In everyday conversation, "afro" can refer to both a hairstyle and a cultural or racial identity. When someone says they have an afro, they're usually talking about their hair, but sometimes it's also used as a shorthand way to describe themselves as being from Africa or of African American heritage.
