Something is absurd when it's ridiculous or illogical, and often makes people laugh or feel confused.
When we say something is absurd, we usually mean that it doesn't make sense, but maybe in a funny way. For example, if someone said "I'm going to eat my breakfast cereal with a fork and knife," you might think they're being absurd because eating cereal is typically done with a spoon. Or imagine a company announcing that they're going to start paying their employees in hugs instead of money – that would be absurd too! We often use the word absurd to describe situations or ideas that are just plain silly or irrational.
An absurdity.
Contrary to reason or propriety; obviously and flatly opposed to manifest truth; inconsistent with the plain dictates of common sense; logically contradictory; nonsensical; ridiculous; silly.
